Joe Tizzard Saturday Blog | Ffos Las
Although this cold spell has meant we’ve lost most of the jumping action this week, in the grand scheme of things it’s not the worst thing, as I always think weather like this can actually help a yard, as it can kill off a few bugs and germs that circulate among the horses, particularly as the weather leading up to Christmas was unseasonally mild.
It does mean we’ll be playing catch-up to a degree for a couple of weeks, but we’re always fairly quiet at this time of year, so I’m not too concerned we’ve lost much time. It’s also good that the BHA have added this Ffos Las meeting, so fingers-crossed it goes ahead.
13:15 Ffos Las – Lord Of Thunder
If it does, we’ll run two. Lord Of Thunder needs a run, we were all set to go to Plumpton last weekend, before that was off, so while he’s got a bit to find on the ratings with most of these, I do want to find out where we stand with him.
He’s in really good form at home, and Brendan [Powell] will ride him to maybe pick up some of the pieces later on, but mostly this should tell us where we should be aiming him for the second half of the season.
15:31 Ffos Las – Triple Trade
Triple Trade would have run at Kempton if it had gone ahead, but instead we’ve switched him here. The original plan would have been to run him over 2 ½ miles at Sandown last weekend, but again, that was off, so although I’m still keen to run him over further sooner rather than later, for now, on soft ground, I’m happy to keep him at the minimum trip.
The handicapper has given him some respite, he’s so consistent he pays the price for that. He’s another in good form at home, and I’d hope he has an each-way chance here.
