Greek Symphony is an exceptionally well-bred two-year-old chestnut filly by Sergei Prokofiev out of the Dansili mare Chloris and is trained by Oliver Cole at Whatcombe Stables.
There is quality running right through Greek Symphony’s pedigree. Sergei Prokofiev was a sharp and precocious juvenile for Aidan O’Brien, winning the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes and his speed is complemented by considerable depth on the dam side.
Greek Symphony’s dam Chloris is a daughter of influential Juddmonte stallion Dansili, while her granddam Primevere was a Group 3 winner and Group 1 Nassau Stakes runner-up. Chloris has also produced winners Royal Elysian and Indigo Dream, giving Greek Symphony an impressive pedigree
The Coral Racing Club bought Greek Symphony ahead of her two-year-old season and she quickly developed into a tough, willing filly with plenty of natural enthusiasm for racing. There is a sharpness about her which reflects the influence of Sergei Prokofiev but the greater stamina running through her dam’s line makes it particularly interesting to see how she develops as she matures.
She got her head in front for the first time at Lingfield in July when stepping up to seven furlongs. She had to work for it that day, getting up in the closing strides to win by a neck and showing not only ability but a willing attitude and plenty of grit. That boldness has been a feature of her first season. Greek Symphony has gained valuable experience on both turf and the all-weather whilst showing us that she has the ability to be competitive on different surfaces.
One of the key learnings this season has been how best to harness her natural exuberance. She is a game filly who loves getting on with the job and can be keen in the early stages, so learning to settle and conserve that energy should help as she continues to develop.
For such a young filly, Greek Symphony has already shown natural speed, courage, versatility and a genuine appetite for racing. With a win already on the board and a valuable first season behind her, there is plenty to look forwards to as this lovely young filly strengthens, matures and grows into the promise of that exceptional pedigree.
