Aspire To Glory comes out of his Leicester race fine after struggling to deal with the firm ground

28 Jun 2024
Aspire To Glory was the third and final runner of the day yesterday for the Coral Racing Club and he was looking to secure a historic treble following Sycamore and Cast No Shadow's earlier victories at Nottingham and Newcastle.

After they broke from the gates, Aspire To Glory never quite looked comfortable with the underfoot conditions and found himself at the rear of the field in the early stages as jockey Darragh Keenan tried to get him settled.

The Daniel & Claire Kubler-trained Salamanca Lad was the one who set the early pace under David Egan, and as they turned for home, he was the one they all had to catch. Darragh tried to get a response from Aspire To Glory as they entered the final couple of furlongs, but it was to no avail.

Salamanca Lad ended up winning comfortably by just over a length, with Aspire To Glory finishing back in seventh.

Trainer, Alice Haynes, sent through this message earlier today:

"Morning all - Aspire To Glory has come out of his race fine, he just simply failed to handle the very fast ground last night.

They didn’t go much of a pace either which didn’t play into his hands, but more than anything it was the lightning quick ground that he has now shown he doesn’t want.

It was a shame to not be the final leg of a Coral treble, but he will be back with his usual chance in his grade very soon."
