Scott Dixon provides an update following race incident with Conservative at Beverley

15 Jun 2023

Conservative unfortunately unseated Phil Dennis during his run in the 18:45 race at Beverley yesterday, but thankfully both horse and rider were ok afterwards.

We caught up with trainer Scott Dixon earlier today and this is what he had to say about the incident:

Yesterday was a disaster for Conservative. As he was going around the bend, he jinked to the left, his saddle went and he unseated his rider, Phil Dennis. Fortunately, both jockey and horse were ok after the incident, which is the main thing.

I spoke to Phil after the race and he thinks it could have been one of two things  either Conservative has spotted the stables and wanted to head that way or the other, and the one I buy into, is that there is a crossing at that part of the course that cars come across, so there could easily have been some loose ground.

I think it’s just one of those unlucky incidents. He has never done anything like that before and I have no concerns about him running around a similar bend again. I think we just have to dust ourselves off from this and look to the future. Hopefully, our luck will change.

Obviously, Conservative did not have much of a race at Beverley, so I will be looking for another opportunity for him very soon.
