WATCH: Double declaration as Hey Day Baby and Lady Mendoza are set to run on Monday

07 Sep 2024
Hey Day Baby and Lady Mendoza have been declared, at Newton Abbot and Perth respectively, for races on Monday afternoon.

Hey Day Baby put in an incredible performance in her last race, winning in remarkable fashion by an eventual distance of twelve lengths in what was only her second outing over fences. She came out of that race in fine order and was raised a massive twelve pounds in the handicap ratings following her emphatic victory, and work began from that point to find her next target.

Thankfully, we haven't had to wait too long as Hey Day Baby is set to return in the Class 5 Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot (15:15) under Benjamin Macey, who rode her last time out and will be claiming ten pounds off of her weight once more.

The second runner of the day will be Lady Mendoza, who heads to Perth to run in Division 1 of the Class 5 Handicap Hurdle over three miles (17:22) under regular partner, Nathan Moscrop. Our mare, trained by Rebecca Menzies, has been off the track since mid July, where she was seen finishing fourth of twelve runners over two miles and four furlongs, in a race also at Perth.

Poor weather has kept Lady Mendoza off the track recently, having been entered in two separate contests since her last run in July that she was subsequently pulled out of due to ground concerns, so she'll be coming into Monday's race fresh.

Rebecca Menzies gave us this update following Lady Mendoza's declaration.

"I have declared Lady Mendoza to run at Perth on Monday in a handicap hurdle over three miles. The weather forecast looks stable, so everything should be in her favour. With her handicap mark, she is guaranteed to get a run, and I think it’s a race that looks winnable for her.

Lady Mendoza ran well over three miles, one and a half furlongs at Cartmel two starts back so this step back up to three miles will not be a problem. She has been working well at home. I really hope she can give the Coral Racing Club another winner."
