WATCH: Hey Day Baby retired as she moves onto new pastures in Pembrokeshire
The seven-year-old daughter of Soldier Of Fortune joined the Coral Racing Club with trainer Jonjo O'Neill shortly after we launched towards the end of 2022 after being purchased at Sandown's Tingle Creek Sale.
She made 13 starts under rules, including one run in a bumper and six efforts over hurdles, but her breakthrough victory came in fine style at the second time of asking over fences in August last year when she won by 12 lengths at Market Rasen.
Hey Day Baby's latest effort came at Leicester in November where she finished second, but sadly after that race it was discovered that she'd suffered a tendon injury, and following plenty of deliberation, we came together with the O'Neill team to agree that the best decision would be to retire her. Despite her injury not being life threatening, it is one that can take a long time to fully heal, so it made the most sense to find her a new home to give her the time she needs to recover before moving on to the next chapter in her life.
Her new owner resides in Pembrokeshire and is someone that Jonjo and AJ have used before for many of their other retired racehorses, so we're in no doubt that she's in fantastic hands. Hey Day Baby has already been given a new nickname of 'Hetti', and she's been enjoying life so far down in South-West Wales getting to know her new stablemates whilst taking in the surroundings.
Although this is the end of the road for Hey Day Baby's time as a racehorse, we'll still be keeping in touch with her new owner over the coming weeks and months, so if we get any future updates on her new life and what she's been up to, then we'll be sure to share them here on the Coral Racing Club website.
