'We're hoping it's a case of quality rather than quantity at Aintree' – Joe Tizzard has two runners at Aintree today
16:05 Aintree – Killer Kane
We’re hoping it’s definitely a case of quality rather than quantity at Aintree this week, with a brace of runners on both Friday and Saturday. Killer Kane has run well all season, and I thought he put in another good performance when finishing fifth in the Coral Trophy last time out.
We’ve schooled him over the replica Grand National fences at the Pipe’s, and he seemed to take to them well, so if he can get into a nice rhythm here, I think this trip is perfect for him and he could well outrun his odds.
We won this race twice with Ultragold, and they were by far the best performances of his career, so there’s always the chance that these unique fences bring out improvement in a horse. At this stage with Killer Kane, we just don’t know how he will take to them, but he’s a decent jumper of a normal park fence, and we’re not here just for a day out.
17:15 Aintree – JPR One
JPR One had a couple of options here, with the 2 ½ mile race his other entry, but we’ve kept him to the shorter trip in this conditional jockeys’ race. He’s a horse I’ve always held in high regard, he’s a gorgeous looking animal and we have been patient with him to hopefully give him time to fulfil the potential we think he has.
I’d say he’s improved from his Taunton win last time, and although this big field will be a very different proposition from that run, Harry [Kimber] has plenty of experience – more than a lot of the riders here – and I think the pair will get on well here.
