Katalyst put in her best performance to date at Nottingham, just being edged out by a head at Nottingham in her first effort over 1m1f.

Our three-year-old filly came within a whisker of heading to the winner's enclosure after producing one of her finest performances to date. While defeat is never easy to take, this was a run that left everyone at the Coral Racing Club immensely proud and hugely excited for what lies ahead.

Breaking smartly from the stalls, Ryan Kavanagh gave Katalyst a superb ride from the outset, keeping her right up to the bridle with confidence and doing exactly what she enjoys most – feeling the wind beneath her ears and a sniff of the lead firmly within her reach. We know that when Katalyst is ridden positively and gets engaged, she gives absolutely everything and yesterday was a wonderful example of just that. She travelled really well and then found another gear inside the final furlong, bravely mounting a powerful late challenge that sadly falling just short to be denied right at the line.

It was thrilling and agonising in equal measures but no one can deny the enormous pleasure in seeing such a stunning return to form.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the afternoon was just how much Katalyst relished being back on the turf. Following her disappointing run on the all-weather at Kempton, she has left us in no doubt where her preferences lie. Yesterday's performance firmly re-established the turf as her favoured surface and she looked every inch a gutsy mare enjoying herself once more.

The good news didn't stop there either. Katalyst has come out of the race in tremendous form, pulling out and trotting up fresh, sound and well this morning.
