Rockstar Icon makes an encouraging return to action with top four finish at Nottingham | Raceday Highlights

15 Jun 2025
Rockstar Icon made his first racecourse appearance in almost eight months at Nottingham on Thursday for the Paul & Oliver Cole team.

Before the race had even gotten underway, Rockstar Icon was voted as the 'Best Turned Out' in the parade ring, so we have to give a shoutout to the team at Whatcombe for doing an amazing job with him on that.

Now, onto the action...

After a smart break from the gates, jockey Luke Morris got Rockstar in a nice prominent position early on where he was tracking rivals Age Of Time and Temper Trap. Those two, along with Encourageable, were the keenest of all to get on with proceedings, so it was certainly going to test the patience and stamina of those just in behind.

Our pair travelled well throughout, and as the field entered the final three furlongs, Luke began to ask Rockstar Icon for more under hands and heels with the tempo increasing, to which he responded well. However, with the final furlong in sight, our four-year-old gelding couldn't quite pull out enough to go away with the front three, and it was the Tim Easterby-trained Mysteryofthesands who got up late to take the spoils.

Rockstar Icon still kept on to finish in 4th place, with Luke saying after the race how much of an 'encouraging effort' it was and that wherever he goes next, he'll take 'a lot of beating', which was pleasing to hear. The final result also landed Rockstar Icon's 10 lucky owners for the day £540 in prize money, of which they all get to take home a 10% share.

After the race, we caught up with trainer Oliver Cole and this is what he had to say:

"Rockstar came out his Nottingham race fine. He's ran very creditably and gone all the way to the line, so we've definitely got something to work on. His scope is pretty good which is a positive. He'll probably have a short break now and then towards the middle of next week we'll start picking the work up again and look for his next race in another two to three weeks."

Stay tuned for the next update from Oliver and keep an eye out for Rockstar Icon's entries as we'll be bringing you another opportunity to head to the races and enjoy an incredible experience as an owner.
