Rockstar Icon could return on either turf or all-weather – latest update from Oliver Cole

19 Sep 2023

Rockstar Icon will be having his final week on the walker this week.

It’s been a frustrating process, but you cannot rush horses back after an injury, so rightly, we have given him the time he needs to recover.

Next week we will start riding him again and prepare him for his return to the racecourse. I am sure he will not have lost any of the promise he showed earlier in the year, so I am excited to get him back in full training. We will endeavour to record his return to the gallops so you can see how he is moving.

In terms of his next race, it could either be on turf or the all-weather. There are still lots of meetings left in the season on turf until November, so I would not rule that out. The weather will start to change soon, so we must have one eye on the ground. He has raced on ‘Good’ and ‘Good To Firm’ so far, and I do think he is a horse who likes fast ground. Equally, I would have no problems running him on the all-weather.

He is one more run away from getting a handicap mark, so his next assignment will be a novice contest.
