We have been schooling him over hurdles every Wednesday, and we are very pleased with the way he goes about his work.

He is a very uncomplicated horse – he eats well, he sleeps well, he’s relaxed in his box and takes his work well - which makes him easy to train.

The plan is to run him in a bumper later this month. He is still a baby of a horse, so I don’t want to start him over hurdles on his first appearance. I think a National Hunt Flat race is a good starting point for him as he will learn a lot from that.

If we get some rain later this week, the plan is to take him for a racecourse gallop at Wincanton on Friday morning. The ground is currently Good to Firm, so I wouldn’t want to risk him on that sort of ground. However, the forecast suggests some rain will fall which will help soften the ground. A trip to Wincanton will also give him experience of travelling in the horsebox, and having a change of scenery is always a good learning exercise.

We'll look to work him alongside around five other horses at Wincanton. They'll gallop over a distance of around 2m, not at full speed, as they would in a race, but it will be a good exercise for him, especially with his opening racecourse appearance coming at the end of the month.

I know by the end of this week we should finally know his official name, courtesy of the Coral Racing Club members, so I'm looking forward to that!
