Joe Tizzard heads to Newbury with a strong team 

Coral Gold Cup day at Newbury is always an important date in the calendar for Joe Tizzard and the team, and he starts the day with Killer Kane in the 1.20, the race named in honour of the legendary commentator Sir Peter O’Sullevan. This 7-y-o went off as 7/2 favourite on his reappearance at Exeter where he seemed to need the run. He should put that performance well behind him here and is among the market leaders with Brendan Powell in the saddle.

Colin Tizzard won the Coral Gold Cup on two occasions, and Joe saddles a top-class trio as he bids to enhance the family record in this famous contest, off at 3.05. Stable jockey Brendan rides Fiddlerontheroof, second in the race twelve months ago and coming here after a pipe-opener over hurdles at Kempton earlier this month, while Harry Cobden takes over on Oscar Elite, another who has warmed up for this assignment with a run over the smaller obstacles.

Joe’s team is completed by Lostintranslation, and victory for this popular 10-year-old would be something very special, as it would give his young rider, Freddie Gingell, by far the biggest success of his fledgling career. As grandson of Colin, and nephew of Joe, Freddie is certainly bred for the job, and if his mount can show his very best form, a big run is on the cards.

Jonjo O’Neill sends out three Saturday runners from his Jackdaws Castle base

Petit Tonnerre lines up as top weight under Jonjo O'Neill Junior in a competitive Coral Racing Club-sponsored handicap hurdle at Newbury, off at 1.55, while he also has a pair in action at Bangor-on-Dee.

Gwennie May Boy will be a popular choice to follow-up his recent course win in the 2.03, while Walk In My Shoes is having her first run since February in the 3.13, and her trainer will be hoping the wind surgery she had in the summer will help her performance.

It’s a day of jumps and flat action for Rebecca Menzies 

She starts at Newcastle with Twoshotsoftequila in the 12.30, a handicap chase, then it’s off to Doncaster for Point Franklin’s second run in a bumper, the concluding race at 3.32. Finally, she saddles La Traviata in the 6.20 at Wolverhampton, the 2-year-old filly having just her second start.

Scott Dixon finishes a bumper Saturday with two all-weather runners 

Our fourth Club trainer, Scott Dixon, is in action at Wolverhampton in the early evening and he doubles up in the 6.50, with Visibility and Amber Dew, the mounts of Dale Swift and William Cox respectively.
