WATCH: West End Boy romps rivals at Wincanton to become club’s first winner | Raceday Highlights
The club’s five-year-old gelding, who’s trained by Coral Ambassador, Joe Tizzard, was eventually sent off at 13/2 having attracted support throughout the day, and it was Joe’s nephew, Freddie Gingell, who duly obliged in the saddle to steer him home for the win.
West End Boy was a little keen in the early stages, but he never looked out of second gear for the majority of the race, and it was nothing more than a couple of nudges from Freddie which saw him bound away from his nearest rivals as they approached the final hurdle, before continuing all the way to the finish line to run out a scintillating ten-length winner.
The victory was particularly special for West End Boy’s lucky Owners for the Day, with several of them able to make the trip to Wincanton on the day to watch it all unfold live and celebrate with the success with the team – not to mention each of them taking home just over £480 in prize money to top it all off.
