Hey Day Baby to school over fences after Hereford frustration
We dropped Hey Day Baby back in trip for her Hereford run, but unfortunately, as at Southwell on her previous run, she ran far too free early on and so lost all chance of getting home even over this shorter trip.
The heavy rain that hit the track before racing also didn’t do us any favours, but once her race was run, Kevin [Brogan] pulled her up, and the good news is she trotted up absolutely fine the morning after.
She’s such a quiet horse at home, and does everything we ask of her, so it is frustrating that she’s pulled so hard on her last two runs, she just gets lit up on the racecourse, but we can be patient with her and see if we can get to the bottom of her.
One positive is how well she jumps, so we’ll school her over fences and see how she gets on over the larger obstacles, she is an Irish point-to-point winner so there’s reason to think chasing will suit her. We’ll also wait for genuinely good ground, and ride her more conservatively, and see how she gets on.
