Welcome to the Coral Racing Club

'Plenty to look forward to' with Lady Mendoza as she's entered at Uttoxeter this Sunday

20 May 2024
The club's seven-year-old mare hasn't been seen since finishing 2nd at Musselburgh at the end of November last year, but trainer Rebecca Menzies is hopeful she can pick up where she left off and have a productive campaign throughout the summer.

It’s been a frustrating spell with Lady Mendoza, as we’ve waited and waited for better ground all through the winter and spring, and unfortunately it just never came. We then took the decision to ease up on her training routine, and during that time she did put on a bit of weight that has taken some time to get off her.

The good news is she’s now looking fit and well, and so we’ve entered her at Uttoxeter this Sunday in the 2m7½ Novices' Handicap Hurdle (0–105).

She’s was away for a gallop last week and went really well, so I’d be hopeful she can go well at Uttoxeter, and then that will set us up for a good run of summer jumping. It was never the intention to wait this long between races, but it really has been the wettest spell we can recall, and as a result we’ve just never had the ground, but we should be back on track now and there’s plenty to look forward to.
