More frustration with the weather for Lady Mendoza – latest from Rebecca Menzies
I entered her there as its one of the best tracks around for finding decent ground, but they’ve had an incredible amount of rain up there lately, and with more wet weather forecast this week, conditions will just be far too testing for her.
It’s so frustrating as we’ve had her fit and ready to run for a while now, but I just can’t remember a wetter spell than what we’ve had over the past 2-3 months. I think I’m going to give her a little break for a fortnight now and let her have some rest while we wait for the ground to dry out. There’s no point just constantly working her at home to keep her fit if we don’t think we can run her anytime soon, and she’s showed us she’s a very good horse when fresh, so I think I’ll just freshen her up and get her back in work later this month.
Hopefully by the beginning of May we’ll have had some dry weather, and the ground will be much more suitable for her. There are usually plenty of good opportunities for a horse like her through the summer months, so hopefully we can keep her busy through that period, and she can finally get her head in front.
She’s been in great form at home lately, and she always improves further for a bit of sun on her back, so here’s hoping for a nice warm dry spell over the coming weeks!
