Cave Article is a seven-year-old bay gelding by Court Cave out of the Definite Article mare Marys Article and is trained by Christian Williams in South Wales.
Court Cave was a beautifully bred son of Sadler’s Wells and his influence has been particularly strong in the National Hunt sphere, producing tough staying horses with an aptitude for jumping. That influence is certainly evident in Cave Article, who has developed into a proper staying chaser and has shown his best form over three miles and beyond.
Cave Article began his career over hurdles but it was the switch to fences that really brought him to life. Chasing has proved very much his game and he quickly developed into an assured staying chaser, winning three of his first ten starts over fences. Those three victories came at Sedgefield, Hereford and Southwell and established Cave Article as a hardy, genuine horse who has found his niche over staying trips. His most recent success came at Southwell in June 2025 and took his record over fences to three wins.
Cave Article has faced a few challenges since and following a difficult outing at Southwell in May, jockey Jack Tudor reported that he wasn't moving quite as fluently as usual. Subsequent veterinary examinations revealed some soreness through his pelvis and weakness behind. His hocks were treated and he was given some well-deserved time to rest and recover before gradually returning to work.
Cave Article has already shown that fences and a proper test of stamina bring out the best in him. For now, the focus is firmly on getting him back fit, strong and enjoying his work before we see our staying chaser back on the track.
